Year Three of the Midwifery School: Midwife Resident CNH 375 & 376
This course is the final part of a series of programs with the goal of equipping midwives to integrate knowledge and skills to provide a full-scope of midwifery practice. This is a continuation of the CNH 373/374 midwifery school for students who have completed those requirements, or by permission from the school leadership. This program focuses on students transitioning from a student or assistant role, into an autonomous healthcare provider role. This is accomplished through student goal-setting and preceptor mentoring to complete all areas needed for graduation and undergoing licensure examinations. Students may have lectures at a field location as they gain further understanding and insight about the birthing practices and skills for caring for women in locations near and far. Lecture content includes professional communications, more advanced anatomy and physiology for midwives, professional issues and ethics in midwifery, gynecology, pre-conception care, fertility regulation, STD/STI and infection control, and professional considerations for services. Students will also be involved in clinical experience, research projects, and protocol writing (refining professional guidelines). The intent of this program is to help students demonstrate Christ as they fulfill requirements for credentialing and licensure as a professional midwife. This program includes international competency standards for knowledge and skills that are required by many national and international regulatory boards. The midwifery instructors and clinical preceptors, who verify documentation of knowledge and skills achievements, are health care providers holding professional credentials in their field.
