Midwife Assistant I & II (Seminar/ES )This is the first of two 6 week seminars that focuses on the initial health care skills of a Health Care/Midwife Assistant. The Assistant primarily serves the midwife as she serves women and families with normal pregnancies. Students learn basic, entry level health care skills with a specific focus on midwifery in the community. This care includes basic prenatal care, labor, birth, postpartum and newborn care. It also covers emergency care and timely transfers to a higher level of medical care. This is an excellent entry point for those who wish to become professional midwives, or community midwives because there is no assumption of prior birth knowledge. This course has a field assignment/practicum available with qualified midwives, to give the students guided, reinforced experiential learning
